Samburu National Reserve is located on the banks of the Ewaso Ng'iro River in Kenya and covers 165 km². It is located in Samburu District of the Rift Valley Province. It is one of the two areas in which conservationists George Adamson and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the Lioness made famous in the best selling book and award winning movie Born Free. It is also the home of Kamunyak, a lioness famous for adopting Oryx calves.
Samburu Game Reserve is a natural habitat for Leopards, Lions, Elephants, Cheetahs, Buffalo, Gravy Zebra, Gravy Giraffe, Oryx and many more including birds of many different species
Mainly dry with scarce rainfall throughout the year with temperatures averaging 32°c during the day and 11°c at night.
